The 2012 Athens GA area Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Campaign will kick off its annual toy collection drive in  November at the Athens Toys R Us store on Atlanta Highway. Check our website often for updates of drop off locations, status reports and local partners. Our 2012 Area of Responsibility will include the following counties: Clarke, Greene, Madison and Oconee.

Toys R Us is a National Sponsor of the 65th US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign again this year and they will be supporting the efforts of the Joseph Schmittou Detachment 1083 of the Marine Corps League located in Athens, GA.

The North Georgia Jaycees have once again joined the Marines of Detachment 1083 and have pledged a tremendous amount of support and manpower in all venues of this years campaign and are excited about keeping the annual event alive in our Area Of Responsibility and they strive to make this community service event one of their primary service events each year. Without the community mindedness of these more than generous young community leaders, both the goals and results expected for this years campaign would be impractical. A big Thank You!!  is due to all of them even before we start.

Also pledging their support this year in the critical area of distribution are the folks at the Salvation Army who will be taking applications in September 2012 at their Church Offices on Chase Street in Athens. They will cover our entire distribution area of responsibility; while we will work to supply toys directly to the following agencies in each of the below listed counties:

smiley Individual Requests: Are referred to the validated organizations agency in their area below.

Donations may be dropped at any of the Below locations through Christmas Day: Our Area Publix Stores

Clarke County:  Community Connection (211), will to act as a request screening, coordinating and distribution agency. 2011 Requests are closed

Donation Sites:           See Above
Requests from all charitable and social service organizations for the donated toys will be directed through Community Connection. This year, Community Connection will be facilitating toy distribution to Clarke County agencies who wish to receive toys from Toys For Tots. Please restrict your requests for toys to those residents not receiving support from other organizations. This will enable our effort to reach as many families as possible in these stressful economic times. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. If your agency serves Clarke County, and would like to receive toys from Toys for Tots to distribute to your clients/congregation/students, please complete the Toy Request form available on the Community Connection website and return it to Tanya Wingfield (twingfield@communityconnection211.org). If you are in Clarke County, you do not need to contact Toys for Tots directly to request toys. All agencies will need to apply through Community Connection, and we will be in communication with Toys for Tots. If you serve other counties, please visit www.toysfortots.org for instructions for your area. Requests for toys will be screened for duplicate applications and then filled by using the following priority levels:1-Schools,   2-Government/non-profit agencies  3-Faith-based organizations* ( 501.c.3).

No guarantees can be made to fill request for toys, nor can dates be accurately predicted for the distribution of toys to applying organizations. Every effort will be made to fill organizational request as quickly and completely as possible. Community Connection of Northeast Georgia will make every effort to notify organizations in a timely manner by telephone to coordinate pick-up of toys.  The organization will then have 48 hours to respond and pick up toys. Once this time elapses and the organization failed to pick up, its application will be canceled.

Distribution: Toy distribution will begin between November 15th and December 18th.

A Toy Request Application Form is available on the Community Connection

*The Salvation Army is by far the largest agency locally supported by The Joseph Schmittou Detachment 1083 of the Marine Corps League Toys For Tots Campaign here in Northeast Georgia. Without their multi county area of responsibility and coordination, the efforts of the Marines and Northeast Georgia Jaycees would be severely restricted. The Salvation Army begins their application and screening process in mid September and is ready to begin sorting their toys and other support in early October.  Next year their distribution will take place in December 21st. This provides the Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Drive with a distribution base that ensures we cover all of our counties in our area of responsibility. Additionally they act as a resource for the distribution of support for families who face disasters during the entire year.

The Salvation Army is the first agency that our campaign addresses, then we focus on each of our counties on an equal and as need rotational basis.

While we Marines would like nothing better than to make every Childs holiday a special one, it must be remembered that we can only distribute what we receive. Please work with our very limited staff of volunteers who will be dedicating more than 2 thousand hours to this years campaign.

As We prepare to launch this years effort, we will try and keep this website current. We will begin updating areas of the site Through January 2012
